Company Profile

What is CALM?

"An individual can cause a crisis, but it takes a team to effectively resolve it."

-Jon Bair, MHA

"When we fail to redirect behaviors, we reinforce them."

-Fred Overton, RN,C

By 1999, we had utilized many of the nationally recognized systems of behavioral management.

What we realized was that while each of these programs had merit, no one single program adequately met the needs of the Acute Care Psychiatric setting. Some programs put to much emphasis on physical techniques while others felt that any event could be managed with proper verbal de-escalation, which sadly enough just is not the case.

The CALM Program emphasizes:

  1. Building the Therapeutic Relationship
  2. Active Listening
  3. Early Verbal De-Escalation
  4. Self Protection
  5. Emotional Boundaries
  6. Control & Restraint Techniques
  7. Post Crisis Review
  8. Crisis Response Planning

The CALM Program has been utilized in:

  1. In-Patient Psychiatric Hospitals
  2. General Medical Hospitals
  3. Residential Care Facilities
  4. Nursing Homes
  5. Foster Homes
  6. Day Cares
  7. Emergency Medical Services
  8. Schools throughout the State
  9. Community Based Mental Health Services
